Catalogue search tips

Search historical events, poets, and poem titles linked to places on the map. Use boolean operators to combine or exclude terms. Limit event matches with the Event search in options below the search box.

• AND — every term must appear somewhere in the match (for events: title, summary, or literary impact, depending on scope).
• OR — at least one term can match.
• NOT — exclude results that contain the following term.
• Quoted phrases — wrap several words in double quotes to search them as one term, e.g. "French Revolution".
• Uppercase operators — write AND, OR, and NOT in capitals so everyday words like “and” in a title are not treated as operators.
• Plain search — if you do not use operators, the whole query is searched as a single phrase (e.g. war and peace).

After searching, use Show matching events on the map through time to explore results across the timeline.
