God the Omnipotent,
How Thy purpose fails!
How little all
Thy thundering speech avails:
For somewhere in
The heart of man and beast,
Thy word of famine
Turneth to a feast;
And even while
The Soul of nature bleeds,
On lilies white
It pastureth and feeds.
