Oh! greatly privileged! Oh! greatly bless'd!
At once the Saviour call'd thee to His rest!—
No slow decay, no dying struggles thine—
Nor fond regrets life's blessings to resign;
For thou wast spared the agony to part
With him the treasure of thy faithful heart,—
Yes—in a moment was the summons given
That call'd thy ransom'd Soul from Earth to Heaven—
And call'd thee too when, hastening to fulfil
By works of Christian Love thy Master's will
Thou on light footsteps went from door to door
To seek the sick, the suffering, & the poor—
Now, kindly bending o'er the dying bed
And breathing words which Christian comfort shed
While hearts by conscience to despondence driven,
Might learn the wondrous truth of Sins forgiven!
The Saviour saw, & deem'd thy work was done:
Thy tasks fulfill'd—thy crown forever won!—
Then, bade thy spirit wing its happy flight,
In one short instant to the realms of Light!—
Where now it joins the angel Choir who raise
To Heavn's high King Eternal Songs of Praise!
