This number is read from the build of the lines. The bright edge is that number, carried outward until the pattern repeats.

The poems

Each poem scrolls on its own, so the two texts stay beside each other.

The Fish

by Marianne Moore

Wade through black jade
Of the crow-blue mussel shells, one
keeps
adjusting the ash heaps;
opening and shutting itself like

an
injured fan.
The barnacles which encrust the
side
of the wave, cannot hide
there for the submerged shafts of the

sun,
split like spun
glass, move themselves with spotlight
swiftness
into the crevices—
in and out, illuminating

the
turquoise sea
of bodies. The water drives a
wedge
of iron through the iron edge
of the cliff, whereupon the stars,

pink
rice grains, ink
bespattered jelly-fish, crabs like
green
lilies and submarine
toadstools, slide each on the other.

All
external
marks of abuse are present on
this
defiant edifice—
all the physical features of

ac-
cident—lack
of cornice, dynamite grooves, burns
and
hatchet strokes, these things stand
out on it; the chasm side is

dead.
Repeated
evidence has proved that it can
live
on what cannot revive
its youth. The sea grows old in it.

Till the Dawn of Love

by Richard

None shall sleep, none shall rest,
Till the dawn reveals its crest.
In the silence, hear the plea,
For love that sets the spirit free.

In the quiet of the night,
Stars above, their gentle light,
Whisper secrets of the heart,
Love that tears our souls apart.

Through the darkness, shadows fall,
Echoes of a distant call,
Hearts entwined, yet torn apart,
Yearning for a new start.

Hope that shines like morning's light,
Breaking through the darkest night.
Love's eternal, burning flame,
Guides us to a brighter fame.

As the stars begin to fade,
In the dawn, a new crusade.
Hearts united, spirits soar,
Love forever, evermore.
