Closes

A note from Richard

V2Melody will close at midnight on 20 January 2028

This site has been a retirement project in musical poetry: poems chosen with care and set to music, offered freely for as long as it felt right to keep the garden open.

After the death of my mother, the work no longer holds the place it once did in my life. I have gone as far with it as I wish to go. Like a sand mandala, it was made to be completed and then released. I am not attached to its permanence, and I do not believe any of it needs to last beyond the time it was given.

My wife and I are simplifying our days. The server, the monitoring, and the residual obligations that come with keeping a site alive no longer fit the quieter life we want.

From 4 November 2026 I will not be adding new poems or musical poems to the site.

Until midnight on 20 January 2028, Spanish time, everything remains available exactly as it is. That is when my VPS server contract comes to an end, and it will not be renewed. After that, the server will be switched off and the site will disappear.

Thank you to anyone who found a poem, a track, or a quiet moment here.

The pleasure was in the making.

Richard

The Reconcilement

by John Sheffield

Come, let us now resolve at last
To live and love in quiet;
We'll tie the knot so very fast
That Time shall ne'er untie it.

The truest joys they seldom prove
Who free from quarrels live:
'Tis the most tender part of love
Each other to forgive.

When least I seem'd concern'd, I took
No pleasure nor no rest;
And when I feign'd an angry look,
Alas! I loved you best.

Own but the same to me—you'll find
How blest will be our fate.
O to be happy—to be kind—
Sure never is too late!

The Song

by Humbert Wolfe

If that is a sword, break it!
If that is hatred, go!
Here is life as we would make it,
where none can say us "No."

You have brought silver, crude as
the first who sold his Lord.
Throw down the pieces, Judas,
as idle as the sword!

You nothing knew? Make fast your
soul to what no one knows!
Here is the upland pasture,
green at the edge of the snows.

No guide to lead, or only
the peak that none has trod.
Who goes with us, goes lonely
between his soul and God.

We have found peace, not your peace
but the eagles' peace as they hover,
a terrible bright, unsure peace,
of the lover that has no lover.

Go back and say you have seen us
with no shadow before or behind,
save the shadow of your God between us
and the God that we go to find.
