The poems

Each poem scrolls on its own, so the two texts stay beside each other.

Oread

by Hilda Doolittle

Whirl up, sea—
whirl your pointed pines,
splash your great pines
on our rocks,
hurl your green over us,
cover us with your pools of fir.

Power

by Emily Dickinson

You cannot put a fire out;
A thing that can ignite
Can go, itself, without a fan
Upon the slowest night.

You cannot fold a flood—
And put it in a drawer—
Because the winds would find it out—
And tell your cedar floor.
