In poetry, a broadside is commonly a poem printed as a stand-alone sheet rather than in a book, magazine, or pamphlet. Historically, broadsides made poems and songs—especially ballads—cheap to print and easy to circulate in public places. Traditional ballad broadsides were often posted on walls, sold in streets, or read aloud in marketplaces. A broadside is usually printed on only one side; a printed sheet with text on both sides is more often called a broadsheet or leaflet, depending on its use.
