Dimly is useful when a poem seeks to make perception partial rather than precise. A room may be dimly lit, a face dimly remembered, or a truth dimly understood. The word can create an atmosphere of distance, dream, fading memory, or hesitant revelation. In lyrical writing, dimness often becomes emotional as well as visual: the speaker does not simply fail to see clearly, but confronts a world whose meaning remains veiled.
