Exchange is the movement of goods, money, services, or value between parties. Though it may appear balanced, every exchange is shaped by need, information, bargaining power, and social status. Poets use the term to explore gifts, trade, reciprocity, and loss, especially where one person gives labor, land, language, or affection and receives too little in return. It can make intimacy feel like a ledger without reducing it to one.
