A guardian is an adult entrusted with a child's care, protection, or legal welfare, often without being the child's parent. In poetry, this figure may emerge after loss, abandonment, illness, migration, or family disruption. Guardian carries a protective resonance, yet it can also suggest bureaucracy, obligation, and the difficulty of standing in for an absent parent. The term lets poets honor care that is practical, chosen, and sustained under difficult circumstances.
