It is especially useful when a speaker tries to defend a contested action, because the changed name invites readers to reconsider whether the quality deserves praise or blame.

Paradiastole changes evaluation by relabeling a trait: “stubborn” may become “steadfast,” while “confidence” may become “arrogance.” Notice that the underlying behavior stays similar; the rhetorical effect comes from the value attached to its name. It is useful in praise, satire, and argument.
