Resolution: The phase of narrative or dramatic poetry where tensions, complications, or conflicts reach conclusion or settlement. Resolution provides closure by addressing the difficulties raised during the poem's development, though the quality of resolution may vary from deeply satisfying to artificially convenient depending on how naturally it emerges from established materials.

In “Ode on a Grecian Urn,” Keats resolves aesthetic paradox with “Beauty is truth, truth beauty”; In “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock,” resolution is deferred: “I do not think they will sing to me”; In “Do not go gentle,” Thomas resolves with final plea: “Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears”; In “Citizen,” Rankine resolves with “What did you say?” leaving tension open; Student example: “The door closed. / I walked away. / Morning came.” as resolution.
