A trellis improves light exposure, airflow, and access while giving vigorous growth a structure it cannot provide for itself. It is an especially fertile poetic image because it joins freedom to constraint: the vine climbs, but along chosen lines. In verse, the trellis may stand for form, mentorship, grammar, or the social lattice that makes abundance visible. Its geometry does not stop growth; it teaches growth how to occupy space.
