On August 1, 1629 CE, a massive earthquake, estimated at magnitude 8.2–8.8, struck the Banda Sea in Indonesia. Despite its enormous magnitude, the earthquake resulted in no fatalities, likely due to the remote location of the epicenter. This event was one of the most powerful earthquakes of the 17th century.
