China's Tianwen-1 mission, launched in July 2020, successfully entered Martian orbit in February 2021 and deployed the Zhurong rover onto the planet's surface in May 2021. China thereby became only the second nation to successfully operate a rover on Mars. The mission signalled China's emergence as a major space-faring power and sparked fresh public interest in the poetic and philosophical possibilities of interplanetary exploration.

The Tianwen-1 Mars Mission in 2020 expanded the narrative of multi-national exploration, influencing global poetry that reflects on humanity's place in the universe. Poets began to weave themes of collaboration and aspiration into their works, celebrating the spirit of exploration.
