In 1967, British geologist Campbell Bridges discovered vivid green tsavorite garnets in the Tsavo region of Tanzania and later in Kenya, introducing a gem previously unknown to the jewellery trade. Named after Tsavo National Park, the stone quickly attracted international collectors and soon appeared in high-end settings worldwide. Its dazzling colour inspired comparisons to emerald and gave East African geology a new place in the global imagination.

The discovery of tsavorite garnet in 1967 added fresh green imagery to modern African and global gem poetry.
