In 2022, extreme monsoon rains and glacier melt contributed to catastrophic flooding across Pakistan. Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab were badly affected, with millions displaced and farmland damaged. The disaster became a stark example of climate vulnerability along the Indus system.

Urdu, Sindhi, Pashto, Punjabi, and diaspora poets used the floods to write about drowned fields, climate injustice, migration, and the old sacred power of the Indus. The event gives poetry readers a contemporary context for river imagery that is no longer timeless but urgently climatic.
