The Battle of Marignano in September 1515 brought Francis I a dramatic victory over Swiss forces in northern Italy. It strengthened French claims in Italy and enhanced the young king's prestige. The battle linked warfare, dynastic ambition and the cultural traffic of the Italian Wars.
