In 1767 publication of the Epistles and Book of Revelation completed the first translation of the New Testament into Manx. The project served a small Gaelic-speaking island community. It gave Manx religious life a durable printed form at a time when English pressure was growing.

The Manx Bible helped preserve vocabulary, idiom and rhythm in a vulnerable Celtic language. For poets, it shows how scripture translation could become a storehouse for later literary revival and oral memory.
