Nizam al-Mulk's Siyasatnama Circulates Widely
What happened
Following the assassination of vizier Nizam al-Mulk in 1092, his Siyasatnama (Book of Government) continued to circulate widely throughout the Seljuk Empire in the early twelfth century. This mirror-for-princes text offered political advice grounded in Persian administrative tradition and Islamic ethics.
Literary impact
The Siyasatnama exemplifies the Persian prose tradition that influenced later poetic treatments of kingship and justice. Its moral-political framework informed the ethical dimensions of Persian epic and didactic poetry, including works by Nizami and Attar, who explored similar themes of rightful rule.
