Between 1614 and 1615, Tokugawa forces besieged Osaka Castle and destroyed the last major Toyotomi resistance. The victory secured Tokugawa dominance over Japan. It helped create the long Edo period, marked by internal peace, urban growth and strict social ordering.

The Edo peace created the conditions for kabuki, puppet theatre, haikai and urban popular publishing to flourish. Later storytellers turned the fall of Osaka into heroic memory, blending political defeat with loyalty, pathos and martial spectacle.
