Closes

A note from Richard

V2Melody will close at midnight on 20 January 2028

This site has been a retirement project in musical poetry: poems chosen with care and set to music, offered freely for as long as it felt right to keep the garden open.

The work no longer holds the place it once did in my life. I have gone as far with it as I wish to go. Like a sand mandala, it was made to be completed and then released. I am not attached to its permanence, and I do not believe any of it needs to last beyond the time it was given. The poems were already here before I arrived and began to experiment with them. They will still be here when these musical experiments, and indeed myself, have been swept away, like the sand of a mandala. Nothing has been lost.

I want a simpler end to my life, days of simple love and enjoyment with my wonderful wife of 20 years. The work of maintaining a server, the monitoring, and the residual obligations that come with keeping a site alive no longer fit that life.

From 4 November 2026 I will not be adding new poems or musical poems to the site.

Until midnight on 20 January 2028, Spanish time, everything remains available exactly as it is. That is when my VPS server contract comes to an end, and it will not be renewed. After that, the server will be switched off and the site will disappear.

The Mandala Is Finished explains this more fully.

Thank you to anyone who found a poem, a track, or a quiet moment here.

The pleasure was in the making.

Richard

The Old Man's Complaint

by Thomas Love Peacock

On Eternity's confines I stand,
And look back on the paths I have trod:
I pant for the summoning hand,
That shall call me away to my God!

My temples are sprinkled with snow;
The sands of existence decline;
The dwelling is cheerless and low,
The dwelling that soon must be mine.

No longer beside me are found
The forms that of old were so dear;
No longer the voices resound,
That once were so sweet to mine ear.

The wife of my bosom is lost;
Long, long, has she sunk into sleep:
My boy on the ocean was toss'd,
He rests in the caves of the deep.

A villain my daughter betray'd;
Her home and her father she fled:
But Heav'n has in justice repaid
The tears he has caus'd me to shed.

Her peace and her honor he stole;
Abandon'd, despairing, she died:
Remorse quickly seiz'd on his soul,
And he rests in the grave by her side.

Oh! where are the friends of my youth,
The lovely, the good, and the brave?
All flown to the mansions of Truth!
All pass'd through the gates of the grave!

On parents, and children, and friends,
Have mortality's arrows been driv'n;
But swiftly the darkness descends,
And my spirit shall join them in Heav'n!

Ac Ni Bydd Nos Yno

by Watcyn Wyn

Tu hwnt i’r byd,
Tu draw i’r cread mawr i gyd,
Rhy bell i sôn am gylchdre;
Yn uwch na’r cyfundraethau oll,
Pob cysawd wedi mynd ar goll,
A’u cysgod wedi blino!
Llonyddwch y cyfandir mawr,
Lle rhoed gorseddfaingc Duw i lawr—
“Ac ni fydd nos yno.”

Gwlad fythol rydd,
O’r cylch lle dirwyn nos a dydd,
Tywyllu a goleuo.
Dim “bore a hwyr” yn iaith y ne’,
Na haul na lloer yn tremio’r lle;
Dysgleirdeb sy’n eu cuddio.
Perffeithrwydd yn goleuo sydd,
Heb wyro gradd o “ganol dydd”—
“Ac ni fydd nos yno.”

Yr oll fel Duw;
Yr afon bur o ddyfroedd byw,
Fel grisial byth yn llifo;—
A phren y bywyd uwch y dôn,
Heb daflu ei gysgod ar ei fron,
Am na ddaw hwyrddydd heibio.
Y cangau gwyrdd yn tystio sydd,
Dan ffrwythau haf a “blodau dydd”—
“Ac ni fydd nos yno.”

Lliw du y nos
Nid oes ar ddim trwy’r Wynfa dlos;
Lliw gwyn yw lliw’r wlad honno.
Gwyn yw pob sant yn y gwyn fyd,
A gwynion yw eu gynnau i gyd—
Mewn gwyn mae’r oll yn gwisgo.
Dwed edyn gwynion engyl nen,
A’r gwyn o gylch yr orsedd wen—
“Ac ni fydd nos yno.”

Pan fachlud gwawr
Holl oleuadau’r cread mawr—
Pan dywyllo’r mynydd honno;
Pan gaiff y gwyll lywodraeth rydd,
Pan lynco’r nos yr olaf ddydd,
A’r hwyr ddiwedda’n huno—
Ni phyla hanner dydd y wlad,
Lle’r ysgrifenodd bys ein Tad—
“Ac ni fydd nos yno.”

Mae Duw yn dân;
A philyga y goleuni glân
I’w droi’n wisg amdano.
Eistedda ar ei orsedd fawr,
A holl belydrau’r brydferth wawr
O’i amgylch yn dysgleirio!
A’r dydd a ddwed, tra’r orsedd wen
A Brenin y goleuni’n ben—
“Ac ni fydd nos yno!”
