Dialogismus is a rhetorical figure in which the speaker quotes or imagines the words of another person—real or hypothetical—within the poem, often to argue, refute, or empathize; it introduces polyphony and dramatizes internal or external debate.

Dialogismus: "‘O death, where is thy sting?’ the poet cries— / ‘Here,’ answers Time, ‘in every breath you take.’"—a rhetorical device where the speaker stages a dialogue with an abstract force.
