Evermore gives a line a solemn and resonant sense of permanence. It may describe endless love, unceasing mourning, eternal song, or a condition from which no release seems possible. In poetry, its length and open final sound can suit a concluding position, especially in refrains or declarations. The term may be exalted, as in a vow of devotion, or tragic, as when a speaker imagines grief continuing evermore beyond the limits of ordinary time.

Evermore means forever, always, or continually, and it carries a strongly literary, archaic, or ceremonial tone. It often appears in vows, elegies, hymns, and devotional poetry to stress permanence: someone may be “remembered evermore.” Its finality can be sincere, excessive, or ironic depending on context. Compare “forevermore,” which is often more emphatic, and “ever,” which is less formal. Use sparingly if a contemporary voice is intended, since its register is elevated.
