Screenprinting produces bold, repeatable images with areas of flat color and crisp graphic contrast. It has been used for posters, textiles, political graphics, commercial design, and fine art. In poetry, screenprint can suggest a method of layering repeated language, slogans, and visual blocks. A screenprinted poem may explore mass culture or protest by repeating a phrase until its familiar public meaning becomes unstable, ironic, or newly urgent.

Screenprinting forces ink through open areas of a fine mesh while blocked areas act as a stencil. Separate screens can be used for different colours, making the process suitable for bold, repeatable images on paper, fabric, and many other surfaces. It became especially prominent in twentieth-century commercial design and Pop Art, notably through artists such as Andy Warhol. Repetition can itself become expressive.
