Queen Anne's Revenge, the flagship of the pirate known as Blackbeard, ran aground near Beaufort Inlet, North Carolina, in 1718. The former French slave ship had been heavily armed after its capture. Its loss occurred shortly before Blackbeard was killed in a battle with British naval forces.

The ship helped shape the Blackbeard legend repeated in sea ballads, children's verse and pirate poetry. Later writers have emphasised its origins as the slave ship La Concorde, exposing the coerced labour and Atlantic exploitation beneath the adventurous mythology.
