First Commercial Intravenous Heparin Product
What happened
In 1936, Vitrum AB in Sweden launched one of the first heparin products for intravenous use. This followed Erik Jorpes's work on heparin structure and purification. Commercial availability helped heparin enter hospitals as a practical tool for preventing and treating dangerous clots.
Literary impact
The commercialization of heparin in 1936 shows how discovery becomes social reality only when it can reach patients. For art and poetry, such medicines lengthen lives in the background, creating more years of memory, work, and witness, thus enriching the narrative of human experience.
