The Cornish-language play Beunans Meriasek was written down in 1504, preserving a saint's life for performance in a regional Celtic language. It belongs to a tradition of community drama staged outside elite Latin culture. Its survival is rare evidence of late medieval Cornish theatre and local devotion.

The play is invaluable for showing how oral, performative and religious storytelling worked in Cornwall before the language's later decline. It gives poetry readers a dramatic counterpart to English and Welsh medieval verse, rooted in public performance rather than private reading.
