In 1504 Aldus Manutius issued an edition of Demosthenes in Venice, part of his programme to make Greek classics available through print. The Aldine press used compact formats and scholarly editing to reach humanist readers. This helped shift classical learning from manuscript circles to a wider European book market.

The edition strengthened Renaissance attention to rhetoric, civic speech and political persuasion. Poets and dramatists learned from Greek models not only imagery and myth, but also argumentative structure, public voice and the art of addressing a turbulent polity.
