In April 1942 American B-25 bombers launched from the aircraft carrier USS Hornet and attacked targets in Japan. The Doolittle Raid caused limited physical damage but had enormous psychological impact. It showed the symbolic power of long-range fixed-wing bombing early in the Pacific War.

The raid became a story of morale, audacity, and technological improvisation. In wartime literature, such flights fed narratives of revenge, courage, and the unsettling distance between bomber crews and cities below.
