What happened
In 1942 Nichols published Such Was My Singing, a selection of his poetry issued in Britain during the Second World War. The book gathered earlier lyrics and portions of the unfinished Don Juan. Critics have treated it as the best single introduction to his range.

The selection is how later readers meet the lyrical and tragic Nichols rather than only the 1917 war bard. It salvages work from a career otherwise scattered across out-of-print plays and satires.
