Construction of the Church of Saint Sava in Belgrade, Serbia, began in 1935, 340 years after the burning of Saint Sava's remains. The project, designed by architects Aleksandar Deroko and Bogdan Nestorović, was interrupted by World War II and the subsequent communist regime. Construction resumed in the 1980s, the main dome was completed in 1989, and the cathedral was finally finished in 2003.
