What happened
On 3 November 1917, Owen is discharged from Craiglockhart, judged fit for light regimental duties. He is posted to Scarborough, North Yorkshire, where he spends the winter on home service, living at the Clarence Garden Hotel (now the Clifton Hotel) on North Bay.
Literary impact
The months in Scarborough provided Owen with a period of relative peace and creative fertility, during which he revised and completed many of the poems begun at Craiglockhart. The coastal town's distance from the front allowed him to reflect on his experiences and consolidate his new poetic voice, while his continued correspondence with Sassoon kept him connected to the literary avant-garde.
