What happened
In 1930, May Sinclair’s Tales Told by Simpson was published as a collection of short stories. The chronology notes that the individual stories had originally appeared separately between 1911 and 1921. The collection therefore brought together work from an earlier period of Sinclair’s literary career.
Literary impact
The collection preserved and consolidated a body of Sinclair’s shorter fiction that had appeared over the preceding two decades. Its publication demonstrates the continuing literary life of her earlier work even after illness had curtailed her active career.
