What happened
In 1831, Słowacki took a position in the Diplomatic Office of the National Government. He was sent on a mission that took him to Paris and London. The assignment became a significant stage in his departure from the political and social world of Warsaw and his subsequent life abroad.
Literary impact
The diplomatic mission broadened Słowacki's experience beyond Poland and exposed him to major European cities. His subsequent writing developed within the perspective of an émigré poet living and travelling outside his homeland.
