Nichols works in Hollywood with Douglas Fairbanks

Poet involved

What happened

After leaving Tokyo, Nichols moved to Hollywood, California, where he advised Douglas Fairbanks and wrote for the stage and screen before returning to England in 1926. The episode belongs to his restless search for income and a larger audience. It placed a Georgian war poet inside the new American film capital.

Literary impact

Hollywood confirmed his appetite for spectacle and large narrative, later poured into the unfinished Don Juan. It also pulled him further from the compact lyric that had made Ardours and Endurances.
