Publication of the satire Fisbo

Poet involved

What happened

In 1934 Nichols published Fisbo, or the Looking Glass Loaned, a long satirical attack associated with Osbert Sitwell, issued in Britain. The poem runs to a great length with notes and belongs to his later, less fashionable period. Friends found it exhausting, though extracts can still show comic portraiture.

Literary impact

Fisbo records his break with Sitwellian modern stylishness in mock-heroic verse. It shows the satiric side of a writer still best known for solemn war lyrics.
