What happened
In 1926 Monro moved the Poetry Bookshop from Devonshire Street to Great Russell Street in Bloomsbury, London, nearer the British Museum. The new premises continued the readings, sales, and informal club life that had made the original shop a meeting ground for Georgian and modernist writers. The move came as money worries and failing health were already closing in.
Literary impact
The second shop prolonged Monro's role as host into the late 1920s, including contact with T. S. Eliot's Criterion circle. Geographically it kept his last years inside the same Bloomsbury parish where his public identity as poetry's shopkeeper had been formed.
