Jones self-publishes The Rose that Bloometh in My Heart

Poet involved

What happened

After moving to Louisville, Kentucky, Jones self-published The Rose That Bloometh in My Heart and Other Poems. He issued the collection under the pseudonym Invincible Ned. The book contained thirty-one poems and marked his emergence as a printed poet.

Literary impact

The volume shows Jones building a poetic identity outside established literary institutions. Its use of formal, conventional verse rather than dialect also foreshadowed the stylistic independence for which later critics would note him.
