Monro meets Alida Klemantaski

What happened
In March 1913, in London, Monro met Alida Klemantaski of Hampstead, seventeen years his junior and then considering medicine or social rescue work. He persuaded her that labour in the new Poetry Bookshop would serve society as well. She became his indispensable colleague in Bloomsbury, later his wife, and the person most often credited with influencing his mature verse.
Literary impact
Alida's taste, bookkeeping, and wartime stewardship of the shop changed what Monro could write and publish. Companionship with her deepens the poems of friendship, interiors, and uneasy marriage, while her later editing preserved the canon of his work.
