What happened
After leaving the Poetry Society connection that had constrained The Poetry Review, Monro started the independent quarterly Poetry and Drama in London in 1913. The journal ran into 1914 and tried to keep English verse in touch with European experiment as well as with Georgian realism. War soon interrupted its schedule and narrowed its space.
Literary impact
Poetry and Drama extended Monro's programme of making a public home for new verse outside institutional verse-societies. Its pages, and his wartime editorials on plain psychological fact, helped set terms for a less rhetorical war poem.
