First Bible Translation into Swahili

What happened

British Church Missionary Society missionaries undertook Swahili Bible translation completed 1894. Missionaries worked with Swahili scholars on translation using Swahili script (Arabic-derived and later Latin). Translation created Swahili Christian biblical vocabulary. This missionary linguistics occurred during German and British colonial competition in East Africa.
