S. M. (Saul Meir) Ginsburg and P. S. Marek publish Yidishe Folkslider (Yiddish Folksongs), the first systematic collection of Eastern European Yiddish oral poetry, gathering 376 songs from shtetl communities. These works include lullabies, wedding songs (kale-zinger), work songs, and laments (kloglid), encoding centuries of Ashkenazi folklore, mysticism, and daily life. The collection preserves dialects later destroyed by the Holocaust.

This collection became a touchstone for Yiddish poets (Itsik Manger, Abraham Sutzkever), who wove folk motifs, song forms, and oral cadences into modern Yiddish verse. Manger's 'folk poetry' explicitly imitated collected forms to critique modernity. The songs also influenced American poets (Jerome Rothenberg) adapting shtetl folk traditions into ethnopoetics, demonstrating how vernacular folklore resists assimilation and genocide through poetic preservation.
