What happened
Constable issued Before Dawn: Poems and Impressions in London in 1911, just as Monro was preparing to settle in the capital as an editor. The collection gathered reformist and personal pieces from the years after the Samurai Press. It is often cited as one of his first volumes that can be called modern in temper.
Literary impact
Before Dawn announced Monro's interest in sexual frankness, social hope, and a future shaped by poets. Its public voice helped him enter London literary politics the same year he planned The Poetry Review.
